Special Issue in Advanced Bio Systems

We have compiled a collection of 12 articles in a special issue in Advanced Biosystems published this June. 42 authors from 8 different Max Planck and associated Universities from the Max Planck Synthetic Biology Network have contributed to this issue. Half of the manuscripts come from inter Max Planck Institutes collaborative work. These articles review the development of stepwise modular assembly of artificial cells from compartmentalization methods to mimicking metabolism, energy, growth, motility etc as well as their ethical and societal implications.
