Ziliang Zhao wins third place in the BPS Art of Science Image Contest

Ziliang Zhao, a postdoc from Dimova-Group group, won third price in the BPS Art of Science Image Contest with his picture of remarkable shape transformations of giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs).

Ziliang Zhao is a postdoc from Rumina Dimova's research group at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam. The beauty of his latest research impressed the judged of this years BPS Art of Science Image Contest that much, he won the third place with his picture of remarkable shape transformations of giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs).

Scientifically you can see, how the GUVs here encapsulate in aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) of dextran and PEG solution which mimics the crowded environment in the cytosol, seen under a confocal and STED (super resolution) microscopy.

In an interview, Ziliang Zhao spoke about the beauty of his microscopy work: He reminds to stay open and to keep in mind to see things from different perspective to recognize the astonishing, surprising and amazing images around you and in your work especially.
